Modern slavery and ethical supply chain policy

How we guard against modern slavery and exploitation in our work and supply chain.

1. Our position

Modern slavery includes slavery, servitude, forced labour and human trafficking. Under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, organisations with a turnover of £36 million or more must publish a yearly statement. We are far below that size, so the law does not ask us for a statement. We publish this policy anyway. We take the issue seriously, and clients and funders rightly expect it.

2. Our supply chain

We are a small company with a short supply chain:

  • our directors
  • associates and subcontractors
  • software and hosting providers
  • professional services, such as accountancy
  • computer equipment.

Our risk is low, but low risk is not the same as no risk. Computer equipment carries the highest risk, as the mining and manufacturing behind it can involve forced labour.

3. What we do

  • Associates and subcontractors. We work with every associate and subcontractor directly, under a written agreement. We pay them fairly, and within 30 days of receiving an invoice. They can end the arrangement by giving notice.
  • Suppliers. Before we start with a significant new supplier, we check its approach to ethical practice, in proportion to the size of the relationship.
  • Equipment. We buy from established suppliers, keep devices for as long as we can and consider refurbished equipment.
  • Acting on concerns. We will not knowingly work with anyone who exploits workers. If we find a supplier or partner that does, we will end the relationship.

4. Raising a concern

If anyone has a concern about exploitation linked to our work, they should tell a director. We look into it straight away and write down what we find. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999. The Modern Slavery and Exploitation Helpline is free and confidential: 08000 121 700.

5. Reviewing this policy

We review this policy every year, and as our supply chain grows. We may publish a fuller statement before the law says we must.
